Android Auto makes debut with Mahindra XUV500

Android is becoming universal with each passing day. The recent change in its status, at least in India, comes from Mahindra & Mahindra. M&M are famous for sports utility vehicles in India and has recently revealed that their next set of cars will host the Android One software. The integration is a great step for Indian roads as it can save people time and show them enough information to divert high-traffic area.

Currently, the integration of Android operating system to the car will be done to only XUV 500 and Scorpio SUVs. With the help of the integration, car owners can easily connect their Android devices to the car system and get important information on the go.

According to the CEO and President, Pravin Shah, there is no future plan for integrating the system in all cars. They want to test the system in their current cars and will finalize after initial successful installation.

The move was probably motivated by Mahindra Open Automative Alliance(OAA). Other giant car makers, who are already in the OAA are Renault, Volkswagen, LG, Google and Ford.

So, what exactly is OAA? OAA is a tie-up to carry forward car technology and make Android Auto more available to cars. They are responsible for developing software that works for cars. M&M are special because they are the first Indian car manufacturer who made it to the OAA.

M&M already have some presence in the car Android software. They have Blue Sense app in Apple iTunes and Google Play Store. They want to send real-time data to the driver such as tire pressure, alerts if the door is not closed and other important statistics that can make anyone a better driver.

With 3rd party apps, Android Auto can really make cars more self-sufficient and awesome!
